The annual National Western Stock Show kicks off tomorrow; a favorite at our house. Won’t make it this year as we’ve been two years in a row, and we like to be surprised by the new things to see so we’re going to pass this year – but we strongly urge you to attend! Also, lots of folks aren’t aware that the NWSS is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides college and graduate-level scholarships in agriculture and medicine for practice in rural areas.
Of course, there’s the Professional Bull Riding, and numerous performances of the PRCA Rodeo to see. Specifically, we enjoy a couple of events you shouldn’t miss; 1) the Mile Hi Select Quarter Horse Sale, which is January 8th, this year, so we can get a good idea as to horse prices, 2) the livestock barns where the 4H and FFA kids preen their steers, pigs, sheep and goats for the show, (great for the youngin’s), heck they even have chickens of all sorts and sizes, 3) don’t miss the trade show, there’s all kinds of good cowboy stuff to be had; 4) and finally the fiddling contest – go to the early competitions as the really young kids will be performing and you’ll be shocked at how well they do!
