Abortion: ‘Number One Killer’ of Blacks

In NYC that is, come this from Catholic News Agency CNA:

‘A new billboard campaign has responded to the high abortion rate among black women in New York City by declaring “the most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.” ‘

The saddest part of this story is this statistic: “The three Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in New York City altogether reported nearly 17,000 abortions in 2010.”  In summary, CNS writes, “. . . During Black History Month, we celebrate our history, but our future is in jeopardy as a genocidal plot is carried out through abortion,” commented Life Always board member Pastor Stephen Broden.  “We have seen the heartbreaking effects of opportunists who happen to be black abortionists perpetrating this atrocity; it’s not just babies who are in danger, it’s also their mothers, and our society at large.”

A refresher is always necessary, we Cowboy Papist recently learned from his kids, who seemed shocked at these new numbers.  As Dr. William Oddie writes over at Catholic Herald UK , it is critical that we Catholics ‘rediscover’ why the Church is against abortion:

. . . the Church is so insistently (the secular world thinks obsessively and unreasonably) hostile to the taking of unborn life: because Catholics believe – more fundamentally than in anything else – in God’s Creation of this world and in the fact that, in Chesterton’s words, life in it “is an experience of a unique and miraculous character, the idea of missing which would be intolerable if it were for one moment conceivable”. The deepest tragedy of the 20th century is that for so many men and women, this dreadful notion became not merely “conceivable” (was ever a word used with a more poignant irony?) but normal.
